Panel Programming: Diversity is Key

As Education Director for the SMPS-VA I've had the opportunity to be a part of the planning process for our 2008-2009 programming.

It looks like we've actually made some headway into getting programs that will help "push the envelope" so to speak and provide our members with quality knowledge on cutting-edge topics. The goal being that our members return to their firms to share / transfer that knowledge. The cycle continues with more programs and the industry and members benefit in the end.

The session that we hosted for September was a panel of principals from area firms, including Hourigan Construction, RRMM Architects, NXL Construction and Austin Brokenbrough and Associates.

The program was a success. Excellent questions ranging from the economy to generations at work solicited insightful responses from each of the panelists.

I think that in regards to panels, having a diverse group of individuals from each sector of the AEC industry helps to provide balance and objective perspectives that everyone can appreciate.
